Coffins
It is important that all coffins, caskets and shrouds are biodegradable, so that our woodland burial site works in harmony with the environment.
There are many types of material used to make 100%-natural coffins; some are detailed below:
Solid Wood
Only pine sourced from sustainable forests is used to make solid-wood coffins. No stains, varnishes or animal products are used. The wood is lightly sanded to bring out the natural grain and colour.

Wicker

Felt
A strong wooden frame, encased in layers of wool felt. The felt shroud is shaped like a leaf, representing ‘the changing seasons of life’, and can be intricately decorated or left plain. Made locally.

Banana Leaf
Banana-leaf rope is woven around a wooden frame to create a sturdy but elegant coffin. The screws, handles and footplates are made from wood and it is lined with natural, unbleached calico lining.
