At Crossways Woodland Burials we are dedicated to helping you arrange a truly personal celebration of the life that has passed. It is important to us that there is as much flexibility as possible when planning a green burial and to work in harmony with the natural surroundings we provide.
All beliefs and denominations are welcome at Crossways Woodland Burials.
Ceremonies and Services
The woodland burial site is open all year for funerals. You can hold your ceremony at the weekend and during summer months, in the evening to make the most of the amazing sunsets.
A lot of services at Crossways Woodland Burials are very simple and organized solely by family and friends of the deceased. Alternatively, you can use a funeral director of your own choosing. You can have as much or as little input from a funeral director as you wish. We can also offer the services of a local Humanist funeral Celebrant who can assist with the ceremony.
Next to the woodland burial site we have a log cabin for ceremonies, wakes and parties. You can decorate the cabin however you wish for your ceremony. Local catering can also be arranged; please contact us for more information.
You can read detailed accounts of organising a green funeral by visiting our Personal Experiences page.
Plots and Memorials
To make sure the site is in keeping with the surroundings we do not allow standing stones, although small plaques made from wood, stone or slate can be placed flat on graves. Our alternative to a head stone is a native tree or shrub, which is planted on each plot as a beautiful living memorial. To help manage the burial site, Crossways Woodland Burials reserves the right to fell trees, although remains will be undisturbed.
An area is set aside for the scattering of ashes. It is planted with native trees, shrubs and wild flowers.
The woodland burial site is not consecrated, but individual plots can be. Unfortunately, double plots are not possible and side-by-side plots cannot be guaranteed, although we will always try to place loved ones as near to each other as possible. We keep a record of each individual grave, as well as micro-chipping every plot.
For information about the variety of environmentally-friendly coffins that can be used for ceremonies, please see our Coffins page.
